German Unity Transport Project VDE 8.2 – Erfurt–Leipzig/Halle new-build line: the Erfurt- Leipzig/Halle new-build line will be opened in December 2015. It will then take just over 30 minutes to get from Erfurt to Leipzig or Halle – half the previous journey time. The project set new standards: on the Elster-Saale viaduct, the longest bridge in Germany, the line forks to Leipzig and Halle – an unparalleled structure. Tunnel hoods prevent sonic boom, to name just one element of DB's noise control concept. The tunnel safety system protects escape routes by means of smoke-tight partitions. Cutting-edge train control systems replace lineside signals.Pictured: operations control centre – computer workstation for controlling the ETCS line
